Job: If You're Over-50, Hold On to What You Got

Well-known is the Pro Publica research that the majority of employees who are 50 years old or older will be forced out of their jobs. Less well-known is another Pro Publica finding: If you're pushed out and if you are able to be hired for another job in your field only 10% of you will be able to receive comparable compensation.

That's why I recommend this: No matter what chaos is going on in your organization, make it your business to hold on what you got. In this article I published in O'Dwyer's Public Relations, I present 9 strategies how you can go about protecting your job during mergers-and-acquisitions, restructurings, flattening of organizations, Reductions-in-Forces and implementation of AI.

Well-known is the Pro Publica research about how, if you are 50 years of age or older, the odds are that you will be forced out of your organization.

Less well-known is the Pro Publica finding that after you are pushed out and after you are fortunate enough to land another job in your field, only 10% of you will receive compensation that is comparable to what you had been earning previously.

That's exactly why as a career coach specializing in over-50 issues, I recommend this: Make it your business to hold on to the job you have, no matter what's happening in your organization.

Today I published this article in O'Dwyer's Public Relations on 9 strategies for maintaining employment security during mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, flattening of organizations, Reductions-in-Forces and the implementation of AI.
